I vitigni Cabernet franc e sauvignon sono giunti in Italia, e anche in Trentino, dal bordolese (Francia) a metà del secolo scorso. Il Cabernet franc è generalmente considerato più vigoroso e produttivo del sauvignon, originando vini meno ricchi di colore e di tannino e di più pronto affinamento.
